Sometimes when the shit is going down you really only have yourself. No one is going to save you, help you, do the work, make things better or kiss your boo boos. So what do you do to get through it? I like to write a letter to myself.
Let's talk about how I'm feeling right now. O - VER - WHELMED. It's just what it is. I have a ton of client work, person work, and taxes still to do. And I'm completely frazzled. And silly me, I took a few days off last week to celebrate my anniversary. (That's the tough part about working for yourself - no one is backing you up, so you come back from a vacation and you still have everything waiting for you with deadlines looming. But I digress.) I'm at a point right now where I'm freaking out trying to get everything done. It's affecting my health. I wake up in panic mode. My sleep is garbage. I'm crabby. My To Do list is a mile long. But instead of scheduling out the next five days filling every minute with work, I wrote myself a letter instead. Sometimes you need to be kind to yourself. Sometimes you need to tell yourself nice things because no one else will. You are strong. You are smart. You can make it through this tough patch. You've done it before. No one has helped and you made it. And you'll make it again. So here's what you're going to do in order to succeed... And then you can proceed to write about the most important things you need to do to relieve the pressure. Take some time to know how much time things are going to take and just give yourself a calm plan of action. Be kind and write yourself a nice note. When you come back to it the next day, reading those kind words - even though they're from you - makes a huge difference. It's going to be okay. I'm in your corner. You can succeed. You will succeed.
